19 Renaissance Wedding Dresses for 2026 and 2027 Brides

In 2004 I planned a wedding in a Scottish castle for a bride who had sewn her own gown from ivory velvet. She laced herself into it with her sister’s help, in a cold stone room with one small window, and walked down a staircase worn smooth by six hundred years of feet. Her groom forgot his vows halfway through. Nobody minded.

For years that kind of gown meant a costume shop or a seamstress. Now the corset, the pointed waist and the big sleeves are on every bridal runway, and you can buy them from a bridal salon or from a maker on Etsy. Here are the 19 renaissance wedding dresses I’d show a bride today, with the back of each one, the price and how I’d style the day.

What makes a gown renaissance

The test I use is the waist. A renaissance gown has a corseted bodice that ends in a point or a drop, often called a Basque waist. Add a square neck, full or puffed sleeves, a laced back, and velvet or brocade, and you have the look.

Regency is different. Bridgerton-style gowns have a high, soft empire waist and no corset, so they belong in another article.

Medieval is longer and looser. Think a fitted gown that flows to the floor, with hanging sleeves and a low belted waist.

Tudor is stiffer. A flat square neck and a hard pointed bodice over a wide hooped skirt.

These lines are my own working guide from years of fittings. The fashion press tends to blur them together.

What the runways and Pinterest say

The runway. Hera Couture’s fall 2027 collection was described as inspired by the Renaissance, with Basque waists and a train that doubles as a cape. Over the last three seasons, Galia Lahav, Markarian, Wiederhoeft and Viktor & Rolf all showed corsetry or Basque waists, and Bi Pham sent out a black velvet corset.

Pinterest. Its 2026 wedding report shows searches for corseted drop-waist gowns up 1,405 percent, capes and boleros up 270 percent, fairytale dresses up 255 percent and Juliet cap veils up 245 percent. Nobody publishes a number for the words renaissance wedding dress, but every part of the look is climbing.

The shops. David’s Bridal now sells a Modern Renaissance collection and calls the fairytale look the bridal style of 2026.

One thing I noticed: salon designers give you the shape in satin, mikado and lace. Real velvet and brocade come almost entirely from small makers.

Corsets, square necks and Basque waists (gowns 1 to 5)

1. Satin corset with a laced back

The gown: An ivory satin A-line with a sweetheart neck, spaghetti straps, a structured corset bodice with front lacing and exposed boning, and a midi train.

The back: A lace-up back with a U-shaped back neckline.

Where to find it: Milla Nova Solivette, price on request at Milla Nova stockists.

Wedding day styling: An upswept braided crown tied with a white silk ribbon, soft romantic glam with rosy cheeks, a lace Juliet cap, pearl drop earrings and ballerina heels.

Milla Nova calls this one medieval-inspired, and the front lacing and visible boning are as close to a real renaissance bodice as you’ll find in a bridal salon.

2. Lace ball gown with a laced corset back

The gown: A beaded lace ball gown with a ballerina tank neckline, a hand-shirred bust, a Basque waist, pockets and a chapel train.

The back: A dramatic adjustable lace-up corset back.

Where to find it: Melissa Sweet MS251290, Spring 2026, exclusive to David’s Bridal (final sale, check the price and sizes in store).

Wedding day styling: A soft side part with pin-and-drop curls, vintage Hollywood glam, a cathedral lace veil, opera gloves and an heirloom brooch at the waist point.

This is my pick for a bride who wants the lace-up back without going to a couture salon. It’s final sale, so try it on before you commit.

3. Square neck satin with pouf sleeves

The gown: An ivory satin ball gown with a soft square neck, contoured bodice seams, built-in short pouf sleeves and a pleated skirt.

The back: A row of covered buttons from the back of the bodice all the way to the hem.

Where to find it: Morilee Naima, style 30171, price on request at Morilee stockists.

Wedding day styling: An Edwardian bun with face-framing curls, soft glam with a berry lip, a pearl headdress, a pearl choker and plum heels.

Built-in sleeves and a square neck are the easiest renaissance pairing to wear. Buttons all the way down the skirt photograph well in the aisle.

4. Silk mikado with a Basque waist

The gown: A silk mikado ball gown with a square neck, a ruched corset bodice, a Basque waist, a full pleated skirt and a chapel train.

The back: A corset-style back with fabric-covered buttons.

Where to find it: Justin Alexander Signature Maris, $3,500 at Kleinfeld (samples usually 6 to 26).

Wedding day styling: A sleek low chignon with a velvet ribbon, full glam with a matte red lip, a sheer cape, a gold heirloom brooch and crystal heels.

The pointed waist is the detail that makes a gown read as renaissance, and this one has it in thick silk mikado that holds its shape all day.

5. Embroidered mikado with a buttoned V back

The gown: An embroidered mikado ball gown with a square neck, a corset bodice, a Basque waist, pockets and a cathedral train.

The back: A V-back with a row of buttons and light floral embroidery.

Where to find it: Justin Alexander Keegan, $2,900 at Kleinfeld.

Wedding day styling: A braided half-up style with a pearl pin, soft romantic glam, a lace Juliet cap veil, opera gloves and pointed heels.

Keegan is the younger sister to Maris, with embroidery and a cathedral train for the same shape. Pinterest says Juliet cap veils are up 245 percent, and this is the gown I’d wear one with.

Detachable sleeves (gowns 6 to 9)

6. Embroidered ball gown with puff sleeves

The gown: A strapless ball gown with a draped sweetheart neck, a sculpted corset bodice, a Basque waist, floral embroidery and appliqués, and detachable organza puff sleeves.

Where to find it: Ines by Ines Di Santo Emeline, $4,865 at Kleinfeld.

Wedding day styling: Loose waves with a fresh floral crown, soft glam with flower-accent makeup, a pearl headband and a bouquet bag.

Take the sleeves off for the party. The back isn’t described on the product page, so ask to see it.

7. Lace mermaid with puff sleeves

The gown: An embellished lace gown with a strapless sweetheart neck, a sculpted corset bodice, a fitted mermaid shape, detachable puff sleeves and a sweeping train.

The back: A sheer tulle back with a row of fabric-covered buttons.

Where to find it: Allure Bridals A1310 at Kleinfeld, price on request.

Wedding day styling: A sculpted low bun, vintage Hollywood glam, a lace calotte cap and chandelier earrings.

A slim mermaid with renaissance sleeves is a fresh mix. The listing calls it both a sheath and a mermaid, so check the shape in person.

8. Bishop sleeves and honey lining

The gown: A chiffon and Chantilly lace A-line with a strapless sweetheart neck, a corset bodice, pearl and crystal beading in a botanical pattern and detachable bishop sleeves, in ivory over honey or all ivory.

Where to find it: Morilee Prospera, style 2620, price on request at Morilee stockists.

Wedding day styling: A crown braid with baby’s breath, soft glam, a long lace veil and a gold leaf hairpin.

Bishop sleeves are the most renaissance sleeve of all, full through the arm and gathered at the wrist. The honey lining warms the ivory.

9. Sheer corset with a peplum waist

The gown: A fit-and-flare lace gown with a strapless sweetheart neck, a tulle crumb catcher, a sheer corset bodice, a peplum waist and detachable puff sleeves sold separately.

Where to find it: Netta BenShabu Elodie at Kleinfeld, price on request (sleeves cost extra).

Wedding day styling: An undone pammy updo, full glam, a pearl headdress and crystal heels.

The peplum sits close to a Basque line. Budget for the sleeves, because they’re sold on their own.

Built-in sleeves and a budget pick (gowns 10 to 12)

10. Organza ball gown to size 6X

The gown: A polyester organza ball gown with built-in sleeves on elastic straps and cuffs, a boned bodice worn like a corset and a very long train that bustles.

The back: A centre-back zip hidden under a row of faux covered buttons.

Where to find it: Selkie The Ivory Queen of Angels Gown, $979, XXS to 6X, ivory or blush.

Wedding day styling: Big soft curls with a side part, dewy flushed glam, a hooded tulle veil and pearl drop earrings.

Selkie’s first true bridal gown goes all the way to 6X, which no salon designer here matches.

11. Silk gauze with bubble sleeves

The gown: A silk gauze gown with a seashell bust, long sheer puff sleeves with ruffle elastic and bows, and a flowing skirt.

The back: A plain back with an invisible zip.

Where to find it: Selkie The Ivory Palace Gown, XXS to 6X (check the price on the site).

Wedding day styling: A loose braid with a white ribbon, minimal flushed skin, a shell and pearl headpiece and ballerina flats.

Soft and floaty, this is the gown for a bride who wants the sleeves without a heavy corset.

12. Charmeuse corset sheath under $200

The gown: A charmeuse sheath with a square neck, a corset-style bodice, a Basque waist and a side slit.

The back: A lace-up back over a zip.

Where to find it: Galina Signature GS290217 at David’s Bridal, $179.96 to $197.96 on sale (sold for bridesmaids and special events, so check ivory is offered).

Wedding day styling: A sleek half-up style with a velvet bow, soft glam, a short bolero and a pearl brooch.

It’s sold for bridesmaids, but in ivory it makes a pretty courthouse or elopement gown with a lace-up back.

Velvet gowns from small makers (gowns 13 to 16)

13. White velvet with gold trim

The gown: A white Italian cotton velvet gown with a deep triangular neckline, long flared sleeves lined in silk and edged in gold braid, gold brocade at the shoulders, a lowered waist and a six-gore skirt.

The back: A smooth back with no lacing (the bodice laces with gold cord at both side seams).

Where to find it: ArmStreet The Accolade, US$1,774 on sale, made to measure (allow about 3 months).

Wedding day styling: Long loose waves with a gold circlet, soft glam with a warm gold lid, a gold chain belt and a velvet cape.

Real cotton velvet and gold braid make this the most authentic gown on the list. Order early, because it takes up to 75 days to make.

14. Dusty rose velvet with hanging sleeves

The gown: A dusty rose velvet gown with a slit neckline embroidered with beads and pearls, long fur-trimmed hanging sleeves and a fitted 14th-century line, also in white, burgundy and blue.

The back: A smooth closed back (the gown laces at the front only).

Where to find it: ArmStreet Lady Rowena, US$579 on sale, made to measure.

Wedding day styling: Twin braids wound into a crown, soft glam with a berry lip, a pearl hair net and a fur stole.

For a coloured gown, this is the one. The fur-trimmed sleeves suit a winter wedding.

15. Off-white velvet with organza sleeves

The gown: An off-white velvet gown with embroidered silk, sleeves of velvet and organza, a fitted bodice and a long flowing skirt, made to measure.

The back: Corset-style lacing down the back.

Where to find it: DJmedievaldresses on Etsy, US$321.80 to US$335.79, made to measure.

Wedding day styling: Loose waves with an ivy and rose crown, soft glam, a long cape and a Celtic brooch.

This UK shop has 12 years on Etsy and thousands of reviews, and it laces front and back so you can adjust the fit.

16. Black velvet for a moody bride

The gown: A black velvet gown with purple flock taffeta, laced front and back, made to measure in plus sizes.

The back: Lacing down the back.

Where to find it: DJmedievaldresses on Etsy, US$195.88, custom and plus sizes (sold as a costume, so it isn’t bridal quality).

Wedding day styling: Dark gothic waves with a sheer black veil, moody glam with a plum lip, chain-link jewellery and plum heels.

Pinterest says moody black wedding gowns are up 1,330 percent. This is a costume dress, so think of it for a Halloween or second-look party.

Linen, brocade and a made-to-order bliaut (gowns 17 to 19)

17. Linen corset with bare shoulders

The gown: An ivory linen gown with an off-shoulder neckline, a boned corset with steel eyelets, a Basque waist and a full skirt, made to measure in ivory, white or blush.

The back: A lace-up back through steel eyelets.

Where to find it: Clan21 on Etsy, US$278.20 on sale, made to measure (read the return policy carefully).

Wedding day styling: A messy braided updo with wildflowers, fresh flushed skin, lace-up ballet flats, a linen shawl and a bouquet bag.

Linen is lighter than velvet and suits a summer barn or meadow wedding.

18. Red and gold Tudor brocade

The gown: A deep red and gold damask brocade gown with a burgundy satin skirt panel, long sleeves and a wide Tudor skirt, S to 3X (sold as a costume, hoop not included).

The back: A lace-up back.

Where to find it: VictorianChoice on Etsy, US$226.95, S to 3X (a costume dress).

Wedding day styling: A low bun under a French hood headpiece, pale skin with a red lip, a pearl rope necklace and a gold girdle chain.

A costume, but a well-reviewed one. It suits a Christmas or themed wedding, and you’ll need to buy the hoop separately.

19. Ivory bliaut with gold braid

The gown: An ivory medieval bliaut with a brocade corsage, gold braid and pearl trim, pointed at the front and back, made to measure.

The back: A bodice that dips to a point at the back waist.

Where to find it: Fashions In Time Jocelyn, $450, made to measure.

Wedding day styling: A long braid wrapped with pearls, soft glam, a gold circlet and a hanging-sleeve cape.

A US costumier will change the colour and fabric for you. Ask about the timeline, because the site doesn’t give one.

Hair, makeup and accessories

Hair has the strongest numbers. Pinterest shows soft side parts up 840 percent and pin-and-drop curls up 260 percent, and Who What Wear’s 2026 forecast names upswept braids tied with a white ribbon. Pearl headdresses are up 225 percent, and the move this year is from flower crowns toward heirloom metal and pearls.

No study names a renaissance makeup look. The trend data points to vintage Hollywood glam and full glam, both up 395 percent. For a castle or velvet gown, I like a soft flush and a berry lip, but that’s my taste, so go with what feels like you.

For accessories, think a cape, an old brooch pinned at the waist point, a Juliet cap where a long veil would usually go, and opera gloves with a strapless corset. Pinterest’s predictions show brooches up 110 percent.

Where to marry in a renaissance gown

Castles and old abbeys with long banquet tables are the obvious choice, and a walled garden or orangery works in summer. I couldn’t find booking data that proves these venues are trending, so pick the place you love and let the gown follow.

Plus-size brides

Selkie runs to 6X, which is the widest range here. David’s Bridal makes gowns from 0 to 30W, though not every style comes in every size. Kleinfeld’s designer samples usually run 6 to 26. Most small makers sew to your measurements, and a laced back gives you a few inches of play if your size changes before the wedding. DJmedievaldresses is the only maker I found that says plus sizes outright. For more ideas, see my plus-size wedding dresses guide.

Buying from Etsy and small makers

Returns. Made-to-measure gowns are usually final sale. Some listings contradict themselves, so get the return terms in writing.

Timing. Lead times run from about three weeks to over three months, plus shipping and customs from Ukraine or the UK. Order four to six months ahead.

Fabric. Ask what the velvet is made of. One silk velvet listing I checked was 40 percent rayon.

Colour. Ask for a daylight photo or a swatch, because screens change colours.

Reviews. Choose shops with years of history and hundreds of reviews. A five-star rating from two buyers tells you very little.

What renaissance gowns cost

Under $300. The Galina sheath, the Clan21 linen corset gown, the VictorianChoice brocade and the black DJmedievaldresses velvet.

$300 to $1,000. The off-white DJmedievaldresses velvet, Fashions In Time, ArmStreet’s Lady Rowena and Selkie.

$1,000 to $5,000. ArmStreet’s Accolade, Justin Alexander’s Keegan and Maris, and Ines Di Santo’s Emeline.

Price on request. Milla Nova, Morilee, Allure and Netta BenShabu. Ask your local stockist.

Where I’d start

If you want the shape without the risk, book a salon appointment and try on gown 4 or 5, then ask to see it with a Juliet cap. If velvet is the dream, look at gowns 13 to 15, check the shop’s reviews and order at least six months out. And whichever you choose, turn around in the mirror before you say yes. The laced back is half the reason to wear this style.
