36 Mob Wife Outfits for Women This Winter

Every winter at least one guest at a December wedding arrives in a big fur coat, gold hoops and a red lip, and every winter the photographers find her. I’ve seen it for thirty years. TikTok gave the look a name in January 2024, mob wife, and it hasn’t really left.

This year the name is quieter but the pieces are everywhere. Here are 36 mob wife outfits for women, from the classic all-black original to the softer way editors wear it now, with looks for work, date night, holiday parties, weddings and New Year’s Eve.

Where the trend stands this winter

It started on TikTok. Creator Sarah Arcuri posted mob wife videos from 2022, and the look went viral in January 2024 when another creator declared clean girl out and mob wife in. Google later named mob wife aesthetic the top trending aesthetic search of 2024 in the US.

The name has faded, the clothes have not. Fall 2026 runways were full of faux fur coats, snow leopard, gold and eighties shoulders. InStyle called them grandma furs and snowy leopards, and Pinterest called the look Glamoratti, with searches for 80s luxury up 225 percent.

The 2026 rule. Who What Wear’s advice this January was less mob wife, more Parisian chic: wear the fur coat like a neutral over simple basics. Coveteur goes further and calls cheetah print the new neutral.

Always faux. Fur coats in this post are faux or vintage. They’re easier to care for and kinder, and they look just as good in photos.

The pieces you need

A faux fur coat in black, chocolate, cream or a print. Black basics in knit, leather or satin. One leopard, cheetah or zebra piece. Chunky gold hoops, a chain or a cuff. Big dark sunglasses. A pair of pointed boots or pumps. That’s it. Most of the outfits below use only these.

Everyday and weekend (outfits 1 to 9)

1. Chocolate fur with a white tee

The look: A long chocolate brown faux fur coat over a white cotton crew-neck tee, black wool straight trousers, black leather loafers, small gold hoops and black oval sunglasses.

Who What Wear’s rule for 2026 is to wear the fur like a neutral, and a white tee is the easiest way to do it. This is the version I’d send to anyone nervous about the trend.

2. Cream shaggy fur and blue jeans

The look: A long cream shaggy faux fur coat over mid-blue straight-leg jeans, black leather ballet flats, a black leather shoulder bag and a chunky gold chain.

Ballet flats keep a big coat from feeling like a costume. It’s the outfit for a Saturday coffee run.

3. Camel fur, ivory turtleneck

The look: A midi camel faux fur coat over an ivory ribbed wool turtleneck, black jeans, black leather ankle boots and a gold cuff.

A gold cuff is one of the small trends Pinterest flagged for 2026, with searches up 50 percent. It finishes a plain turtleneck nicely.

4. Rust fur and a blue satin skirt

The look: A rust faux fur coat over a blue satin midi skirt, black leather pointed pumps, black cat-eye sunglasses and a slicked high ponytail.

Simone Ashley wore a rust fur with a blue skirt in 2025 and Hello! called it the evolution of mob wife. Colour makes it feel new.

5. Leopard belt and dark denim

The look: A black sweater-knit bodysuit tucked into dark-wash straight jeans, a leopard print calf hair belt, chunky black leather loafers and large gold hoops.

CNN Underscored’s everyday take puts the leopard on your belt. It’s the gentlest way to try the trend.

6. The classic all black

The look: A black faux fur coat over a black bodysuit, black faux leather leggings, black leather knee boots, layered gold hoops and black sunglasses.

This is the January 2024 original. One TikTok creator joked that if you look like you’re going to a funeral, you’re doing it right.

7. Velour tracksuit and fur

The look: A black velour zip-up tracksuit with wide pants under a long cream faux fur coat, oversized black sunglasses, a gold chain, a black leather tote and hair in a claw clip.

Carmela would wear a velour tracksuit to the airport, and so can you. The fur makes it look on purpose.

8. Zebra coat over black

The look: A zebra print faux pony hair coat over a black merino turtleneck, black wool trousers and black leather ankle boots.

Who What Wear’s fall animal print report says zebra is the print to try after leopard. Keep everything under it black.

9. Snow leopard in soft grey

The look: A snow leopard print grey and ivory faux fur long coat over a heather grey cashmere crewneck, light grey wool wide-leg trousers, grey suede ankle boots and gold hoops.

Snow leopard was all over the fall runways at Bottega Veneta and Carolina Herrera. Grey on grey makes it feel quiet and expensive.

For the office (outfits 10 to 15)

10. Oatmeal fur and grey tailoring

The look: A long oatmeal faux fur coat over a grey merino V-neck sweater, grey wool tailored trousers and brown snakeskin-embossed leather boots.

Neutral fur over grey tailoring is the office version. The snakeskin boots are the only wink.

11. Slip skirt and a white shirt

The look: A white cotton button-up shirt tucked into a black satin midi slip skirt, black leather tall boots, a gold watch and gold hoops.

CNN Underscored suggested this for a business lunch. The slip skirt runs to 4XL at its recommended shop.

12. The 80s power suit

The look: A black wool oversized power suit with sculpted shoulders over an ivory silk shell, a gold cuff, a vintage gold brooch on the lapel and black leather pointed pumps.

Pinterest calls this look Glamoratti, with searches for 80s luxury up 225 percent and brooch aesthetic up 110 percent. A brooch on a black suit is the whole idea.

13. Fur collar coat over black

The look: A black cotton poplin button-up shirt, black vegan leather straight pants, black leather pointed pumps, a camel wool coat with a chocolate faux fur collar, gold hoops and a gold watch.

A fur collar is a good start if a full fur coat feels like too much for work.

14. Leopard satin midi for work

The look: A leopard print satin midi skirt with a black fine-knit merino crewneck, black leather knee boots and gold drop earrings.

Vogue’s advice was animal print in small doses. A leopard skirt with a plain black knit is exactly that.

15. Cheetah coat as a neutral

The look: A cheetah print faux fur coat over a camel wool turtleneck, camel wool straight trousers, tan leather loafers and a tortoiseshell claw clip.

Coveteur says cheetah is the new neutral this fall. Camel underneath lets the coat do the talking.

Date night (outfits 16 to 22)

16. Black fur and a sheer top

The look: A long black faux fur coat over a sheer black chiffon top, black jeans, black leather pointed boots and a red lip.

A sheer top under a big coat is the easiest date night look on this list.

17. Red knit mini and brown fur

The look: A red knit minidress under a chocolate faux fur coat, black leather pointed pumps and gold hoops.

CNN Underscored paired a red knit mini with a statement coat. Chocolate fur feels warmer than black.

18. Leopard slip and a biker jacket

The look: A leopard print silky slip dress under a black leather biker jacket, red kitten heels and a red flower choker.

The Knot suggested this for a bachelorette night. It works just as well for dinner for two.

19. Red mini and black fur

The look: A red crepe mini dress under a black faux fur coat, black heels, a sparkly bucket bag and red lipstick.

Red and black is the most famous mob wife pairing. A sparkly bag adds a little fun.

20. Black lace and leopard heels

The look: A black lace mini dress over a black slip, a chocolate brown faux fur coat, leopard heels and a leopard bag.

Leopard shoes and bag in one outfit, and nothing else. It’s a good rule for keeping the print in check.

21. Black satin slip and a sleek bob

The look: A black satin bias-cut slip dress with a black faux fur shrug, a gold cuff, black strappy sandals and a sleek bob.

Dazed pointed to a slinky black slip and a sharp bob as another route into the look. Keep the jewellery to one cuff.

22. Baby blue leather set

The look: A baby blue leather cropped jacket and matching straight pants with a white faux fur stole, a chunky gold chain, nude pointed pumps and a high ponytail.

Dazed called back to Ginger in Casino. A pale leather set is the brightest version of the trend.

Holiday parties (outfits 23 to 28)

23. Gold sequin gown and black fur

The look: A gold sequin mock-neck gown with a black faux fur coat and gold hoops.

CNN Underscored suggested a seventies sequin gown for nights out. Throw the coat over your shoulders.

24. Feather mini and pearl heels

The look: A black feather-trim mini dress with pearl kitten heels, a matching pearl clutch, dark sunglasses and a nineties updo.

Feathers and pearls feel festive without much effort. Take the sunglasses off once you’re inside.

25. Black lace and crystals

The look: A black lace dress with a crystal statement necklace, silver satin shoes and sunglasses.

The Knot’s pick for a big night out. Silver shoes stop it looking too heavy.

26. Gold lame for the holidays

The look: A gold lame draped midi dress with a black faux fur cropped jacket, a gold cuff, gold statement earrings and black velvet pointed pumps.

InStyle named eighties gold lame one of the big fall trends, seen at Gucci and Mugler. It’s made for a holiday party.

27. Pillbox hat and leather gloves

The look: A black velvet long-sleeve mini dress with a long chocolate faux fur coat, a black felt pillbox hat, black leather gloves, sheer black tights and black pointed pumps.

Gloves and a little hat are the old-glamour accessories Who What Wear keeps showing this winter.

28. Shearling and a black knit mini

The look: A brown brushed shearling coat over a black knit mini dress, sheer black tights, black kitten heels and gold chunky earrings.

Kendall Jenner wore shearling with sheer tights and kitten heels, and Vogue called it the cooler take. It’s easy to walk in.

As a wedding guest (outfits 29 to 32)

Nobody has written rules for mob wife wedding guests yet, so these four come from my own experience. Skip white and ivory, including white fur, keep it to one statement piece, and take the sunglasses off indoors.

29. Chocolate satin for an evening wedding

The look: A chocolate brown satin bias-cut midi dress with a black faux fur stole, gold drop earrings, a gold cuff, black satin pointed pumps and a red lip.

My rule for guests is simple: no white or ivory, including white fur, and only one statement piece. Here the stole is it. For more ideas on what to wear in the cold, see my winter wedding ideas.

30. Burgundy velvet maxi

The look: A burgundy velvet long-sleeve maxi dress with a long black faux fur coat, layered gold necklaces and a black velvet clutch.

Take the coat off for the ceremony and keep it for the photos outside. Burgundy velvet looks rich in candlelight.

31. Emerald satin and leopard shoes

The look: An emerald satin slip midi dress with a black wool cropped jacket, leopard calf hair pointed pumps and gold hoops.

Keep the leopard to your shoes and nobody will think you’re trying to steal the day. If you need sizes that fit, my plus-size cocktail dresses guide has good options.

32. Black tie with a fur stole

The look: A black velvet column gown with a black faux fur stole, long black satin gloves and gold statement earrings.

For a black tie wedding, this is the look. Long gloves are back this winter. Brides who love the drama should see the gothic wedding dresses trend.

New Year’s Eve (outfits 33 to 36)

33. Cream fur over silver fringe

The look: An oversized fuzzy cream faux fur coat over a black mesh dress with silver fringe.

Dua Lipa wore almost this, and it’s the most fun look here. The fringe moves when you dance.

34. Cheetah velvet topper

The look: A cheetah print velvet topper coat with a burnt orange collar over a black satin slip dress, gold hoops and black strappy sandals.

Jennifer Lawrence’s cheetah coat was one of the best looks of the original trend. A slip dress keeps it simple underneath.

35. Red stilettos and black sequins

The look: A black sequin mini dress with a black faux fur coat, red pointed-toe stiletto pumps, diamond-look studs and a red lip.

CNN Underscored said red stilettos for special occasions. They’re the only colour here. My comfortable wedding shoes list has lower heels if midnight is a long way off.

36. Leopard fur and gold chain

The look: A leopard faux fur coat over a black faux leather mini dress, a gold maxi chain, a black shoulder bag and large black sunglasses.

Cosmopolitan’s version is pure 2024 and still great for New Year’s. Go all in for one night.

Hair, makeup and nails

Hair. Go big. Spray volumiser on dry hair, set it in large Velcro rollers and finish with hairspray. Heidi Klum’s mob wife blowout this year had a deep side part and soft side bangs. For a sleeker look, try a slicked high ponytail or a sharp bob.

Makeup. Bobbi Brown artist Victor Anaya builds it with a matte base, bronzer, pink blush, smudged black liner under a smoky brown eye, lots of mascara and a nude lip lined a little darker. Wear a red lip for evening and the brown nude for day.

Nails. Square French tips are the Carmela classic. Red or leopard nail art also works, and press-ons are a cheap way to try it.

Where to buy a faux fur coat

Under $150. Target’s Wild Fable faux fur jacket ($49), an Amazon faux fur coat ($95.99, sizes S to 4X), the ASOS Curve faux fur bomber ($109), Zara ($129) and the Steve Madden Alaina coat ($139).

$150 to $400. Khy jackets and coats run about $158 to $398, including two leopard styles, and The Frankie Shop starts around $290.

Splurge. Apparis ($375 to $545) and Unreal Fur ($459 to $599) make the softest faux fur I’ve touched.

Rent it. Nuuly has rented Unreal Fur coats for its $98 monthly plan, which is a good choice for a single wedding or party.

Plus sizes. Torrid, Ashley Graham at JCPenney and Roamans make faux fur coats up to 6X. Eloquii and June + Vie at Macy’s go to 26/28, and ASOS Curve to 24/26.

Plus-size styling tips

These are my own tips, since nobody has written much about plus-size mob wife style. Wear a long coat open over an all-black outfit for one long line. Add a leopard or gold-buckle belt at the waist. Choose bias-cut satin skirts and wrap dresses, and straight faux leather pants over leggings. Keep the leopard to one spot and wear bigger jewellery.

Where I’d start

Buy one faux fur coat in chocolate or cream and wear it with jeans and a white tee, like outfit 1. Once that feels easy, add the gold hoops and the red lip, and save the full leopard coat for New Year’s Eve.

About the research

I used Google’s Year in Search 2024, Pinterest Predicts 2026, InStyle and Coveteur on the fall 2026 runways, Who What Wear’s 2026 faux fur and animal print coverage, CNN Underscored, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Dazed, The Knot, FASHION Magazine, Marie Claire on makeup, The Zoe Report on faux fur brands and The Curvy Fashionista on plus-size coats. Outfits 29 to 32 and a few others are my own styling ideas built on these trends.
